442 Abner Eddy (Zachariah, Joshua, Zachariah, Samuel, William), b. Feb. 20, 1747/48, in Salisbury, Conn. (Hist. Asso. Col.); d. before Nov. 2, 1824 (Northampton Prob.); m. (1) July 12, 1777, Elizabeth Colton (Greenwich Town and Church Rec.). She d. Oct. 1, 1790, in Greenwich, Mass. He m. (2) Nov. 17, 1791, Dorcas Gross. (Note: On Sept. 28, 1791 the intentions of marriage between Dorcas Norcross and Abner Eddy were filed. This is probably a clerical error.)

Abner Eddy lived in Belchertown, Mass. On Aug. 7, 1777, he purchased 100 acres from his father. On Sept. 28, 1779, he sold "a part of the farm on which I now live" and "formerly of Abner Smith." The land extends to Capt. Eddy's lane and the Hackmatack Swamp is on the western border. Again in 1780 he sells a part of the same farm (Deeds at Northampton, Mass., 18.55; 18.56).

Dorcas Eddy, together with Simeon Waters and Benjamin Harwood, setled the estate of Abner Eddy, "late of Enfield." They were appointed Nov. 2, 1824. On Dec. 5, 1826, they paid certain sums to Richard Eddy, Jonah Gross, Abner Eddy, Jr. and others.

In 1790 he was a resident of Greenwich, Hampshire Co., the head of a household consisting of two males over 16, two under 16, and six females.

He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War with the following service:

Abner Eddy, Belchertown. Sergeant, Capt. Jonathan Bardwell's co. of Minute-men. Col. Jonathan Warner's regt., which marched in response to the alarm of April 19, 1775, to Cambridge; service, 7 days; also, Capt. Jonathan Bardwell's co., Col. David Brewer's (9th) regt.; muster roll dated Aug. 1, 1775; enlisted April 26, 1775; service, 3 mos. 1 week, 5 days; also, company return [probably Oct. 1775] also, Capt. Bardwell's co., Col. Rufus Putnam's (late D. Brewer's) regt.; order for bounty coat or its equivalent in money dated Roxbury, Oct. 31, 1775.

Abner Eddy. Private, Capt. Elijah Dwight's co., Col. Elisha Porter's (Hampshire Co.) regt.; discharged Aug. 19, 1777; service, 5 days; company ordered out on an alarm at Bennington, Aug. 17, 1777; also, Capt. Jonathan Bardwell's co., Col. Elisha Porter's regt.; enlisted Sept. 22, 1777, discharged Oct. 18, 1777; service, 1 mo. 3 days, travel included; roll dated Belchertown.
